Velashape Machine
Velashape Machine is a non-invasive, painless way to contour the body and reduce cellulite. This FDA-approved device from Syneron has bi-polar radio frequency and non-evasive elos technology that is safe and effective.
It works best for people who are at or near their ideal weight, says Chang. Patients need four to eight treatment sessions.
The VelaShape II
The VelaShape II is the latest version of Syneron Candela’s cosmetic machine that helps reduce cellulite and slim the body. It is the only noninvasive device FDA-cleared to eliminate cellulite and reduce body circumference. It uses a combination of infrared light, bi-polar radio frequency, mechanical massage, and pulsatile vacuum to shrink fat cells, firm skin, sculpt the body’s shape, alleviate muscle pain and soreness, and improve lymphatic flow.
According to plastic surgeon Dr. Gregory Turowski in a RealSelf Q&A, VelaShape works best for people who are close to their ideal body weight and have mild to moderate cellulite. It’s not a treatment for obesity or significant loose skin, and it is not recommended for pregnant women or anyone with any sort of implanted electronic device such as a pacemaker. The treatment is not recommended for anyone with keloids, a history of hyperpigmentation, or a known allergy to the nitric oxide compound in the machine.
The procedure begins with a full body scan that determines the most effective treatment plan. The handpiece is then placed on the area of the body to be treated, where it produces a feeling similar to a deep tissue massage and heat. The treatment session can last up to 45 minutes. After a treatment, patients can return to their normal activities immediately.
In addition to feeling like a deep tissue massage, the VelaShape II also stimulates the growth of new collagen and elastin, which helps tighten and firm the skin’s appearance. It is also able to break down stubborn fat cells. The melted and liquefied fat cells are then naturally eliminated from the body through the lymphatic system. Because VelaShape II targets fat cells beneath the surface of the skin, it’s considered a noninvasive treatment.
Both Chang and Om say that a large percentage of their patients find the treatment to be comfortable with no discomfort at all. Some experience slight redness, bruising or swelling afterward, but these effects are short-lived. Both doctors also note that it’s important to stay hydrated in the days leading up to a VelaShape treatment, as this can help improve results.
Unlike liposuction, the VelaShape II is not an expensive treatment. Most patients can achieve their desired results after only a few treatment sessions. While some individuals may require additional treatments, most see noticeable improvements within six weeks of the final session. Those who continue with the recommended maintenance treatments can maintain their results for longer than three years. The cost of each session varies depending on the specific area of the body being addressed. Generally, it costs between $150 and $500 per treatment. Typically, treatments are performed once a week for four to six weeks. It’s also recommended to follow a healthy diet and exercise to sustain the benefits of the treatment.
